During December 2017 we had an assessment visit and were presented with the Investors in Families Award. We are the first high School in North Wales to achieve this award.  There was a lot of work involved gathering evidence and interviewing staff which highlighted family and community engagement.

The award recognises the whole school approach towards engagement and providing opportunities for the learners, parents and the community.

During the visit and tour of the school the assessors saw the pupil council in action and hear their views on important topics.  The assessors commented that they felt 'The pastoral care offered at Connah's Quay High School is exceptional, this is highlighted with the employment of a Therapeutic Practitioner, Drug and Alcohol Service and Careers Wales who are on the school grounds and can be easily accessed'.

There were varied activities which were presented some of these included:

  • Challenging years’ programme
  • Transition Work
  • Involving Community links - Community Gardening and Keep Wales Tidy
  • Range of activities offered to all year groups
  • Healthy Schools Award
  • Barnardos Young Carers Charter   We met in T6 for coffee and mince pies and this was a chance for staff, parents to view the evidence and have a chat.   'Overall Connah's Quay High School has achieved a high level of pupil, family and community engagement.'
